Bulldog
The bulldog is a non-sporting breed of dogs with a brindle, solid white, red or fawn colored coat or any of these colors on a white background on the coat. Descendants of the Asiatic mastiff, bulldogs were first bred in Great Britain to participate in the blood sport of bull baiting. That’s where they get their names from: bull baiting à bulldogs. And that’s not it, these bulldogs weren’t only used for bull baiting, they were also used against bears and other dangerous carnivores such as lions. During the 19th century, anti-baiting laws were passed where bulldogs could no more be used for bull baiting hence purebred bulldogs became extremely rare. However, in today’s world, this very same bulldog which was once upon a time a ferocious creature used for bull baiting and against bears, lions and other carnivores, is now a loving and gentle pet quite suitable to be used for dog shows thanks to its obedience.
The bulldog is medium sized, not too large, not too small, way heavier than you can imagine looking at its size, and it is built low to the ground to provide sturdiness. Their physical build offers them extreme strength and sturdiness, however just because they’re strong doesn’t mean they use their strength all the time, these bulldogs are kind, caring, loving and gentle too. Bulldogs are not aggressive and hence are quite dignified. They have a comic personality and clown around all the time. It is practically impossible to get bored in the company of a bulldog since if you’re feeling low, their love and affection would cheer you up, if you’re bored, their playful nature would entertain you and if you’re sad, their comic personality and clowning around would definitely bring a wide smile across your face.
